Project Description

Construction on the Blaauwberg Beach Hotel started in 2009, after a two year planning process. An apartment block was previously approved on the property, but when the client purchased the land they briefed Axion Architects to redesign the development to accommodate a Radisson Hotel.  

The site was encumbered by several restrictions. The height limit was set and this posed a significant design challenge. Particularly challenging was to design the common areas and linking services to accommodate horizontal circulation below ground level. 

We managed to achieve this within the high level of specifications set out by the Rezidor Group, and also managed to achieve spectacular ocean-facing views for all the rooms and suites.
